K + E’s post is going to be significantly longer than my usual wedding blogs – and that’s because their day was incredibly special to me. Their day was romantic and meaningful in a way that was unique to them, using their shared interests and artistic abilities to honor their queer identities, combined cultures, and true, authentic selves. Which, if you know me at all, is exactly the philosophy I preach about planning weddings.
The couple started their wedding day getting ready at a friend’s house. Their outfits were simply amazing – with a tassled cape, gloves, and gold hardware. They were wonderfully dramatic and theatrical, which was a running theme of the entire day. Their wedding party was also serving looks, and each had special accessories (swords, feathers, etc.)
Their venue was My Moon, an industrial, whimsical space in Brooklyn, NYC. Once guests had arrived, K + E proceeded with a Star Ceremony. This was a theatrically scripted ceremony, almost like a stage show, that involved storytelling elements. The couple held glowing orbs and a sword. It was tearjerkingly beautiful and I’ve never seen anything else quite like it!
After the ceremony, guests were welcomed into a stunning, intimate reception space. The florals were actually designed by K’s mom (I told her they were pretty in Mandarin, and she then proceeded to have a whole conversation with me thinking I was more fluent than I actually am 💀) Every detail incorporated their personality and interests, including life-size character cutouts from the anime Yuri on Ice and a scrapbook-style guestbook station with stamps and art supplies. Everything was perfectly coordinated by their planner, Amy, from Poppy & Lynn.
Guests partied and danced the night away, and the Yuri on Ice cutouts even joined them on the floor (of course Non-Traditional Wedding DJs made sure History Maker was played). It was the perfect intimate, fantastical, and fun wedding for two incredibly creative and amazing people.
